The Age-Old Debate: Does Size Matter?
Ahhh… the age old question. Does size matter?
In certain aspects of life, size does seem to be important. Take height for example. Statistics show that on average, being an inch taller is directly correlated to earning $1000 more per year. It is a cruel fact of life that a six foot man earns $5000 more per year than his five foot seven equivalent.
In other areas, size seems to be less important. Nowhere is this statement more true than in the natural world. While we obsess over the dangers of great white sharks and spotted leopards, minuscule microorganisms are the true bad-boys of nature.
Think it’s impressive that an elephant can drag 20 times their body weight? The neisseria gonorrhoeae bacterium can pull up to 100,000 times its weight. Are you in awe of polar bears, who thrive in harsh subarctic climes? They look like survival amateurs compared to the deinococcus radiodurans bacterium, which can survive a nuclear crisis 1000 times worse than Fukushima.
But when it comes to blog post size, the jury is still out as to whether size matters. Read More
A picture tells a thousand words. But a video from Google tells one million.
I work for a Marketing Agency and since we sufficiently line Google’s pockets with our client’s money (and do a great job for our clients in the process), they’ve made us into a “Google Partner”. All of this allows us exclusive access to training events, live webinars and support. We couldn’t be happier to receive preferential treatment from this generous tech giant.
As part of the Google Partner’s program, we have been invited to watch two live-stream events in 2015. Since these live-stream events are now publicly available, I thought I would share them with you.
The first video covers off how businesses can use Digital Marketing and Google AdWords to grow their revenues. The second video addresses the business case for creating a corporate video, and then explores how you can use Google’s YouTube video to promote your video.
“Give a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man how to fish, and he’ll eat for a lifetime.”
In the spirit of this quote, I have provided a list of the main SEO e-books, articles and blogs that inform my day-to-day strategy and execution. I hope you find them helpful!
Tearing off the Corporate Shackles
We’ve all been there. You find yourself struggling to get out of bed in the morning. Your motivation is about as low as winter temperatures in Canada. With every passing day, a little more of your soul gets devoured by your corporate master, who shuns your well-being in the pursuit of earning cold hard cash. You officially hate your job.
And then finally, one day, you wake up and ask yourself “is this even worth it anymore”? The answer is a resounding “no.” For some, this is the most liberating experience of their lives. They decide they’ve had enough and it’s time to change career.
So you’ve just decided to re-design your website. How exciting! You’ve got grand plans to incorporate a big beautiful hero image, shiny call-to-action buttons and a corporate video that’s been months in-the-making. “It will be glitzy, it will be glamorous, and people will love it”, you think to yourself.
But before you get all gung-ho with the aesthetics, make sure you put some thought into what’s under the hood. That’s right, I’m talking about SEO.
The Intelligence of Search Engines
Recently, there has been much debate about whether robots will one day overthrow humans and take over the world. While I’m not ruling out this (ludicrous) idea, I’m confident that we’re very far away from such an apocalyptic outcome for the human race.
How can I be so sure?
Because one of the the most intelligent computer algorithms in the world still struggles with the English language. I am, of course, referring to Google’s search algorithm, one of the most sophisticated forms of artificial intelligence the world has ever seen.
We survived it. February marked the coldest month on record in Toronto. And it wasn’t just Canadians living through a record-breaking cold spell, as residents of Connecticut can attest to.
Luckily, spring has finally arrived. And with spring, comes spring cleaning. This brutal winter has left homes across North America broken and battered. Home owners are rushing to replace the shingles on their roofs or fix cracks in their home’s foundations.
With this “fix-up” mindset top-of-mind, what better time is there to fix your business’s Google AdWords campaign?
Decoding Google’s Top Secret Search Algorithm
If you ask 10 different marketing professionals how to rank highly on Google’s search engine results pages (“SERPs”), you’ll get 10 different answers. While this lack of consensus makes the marketing industry look extremely fragmented, the phenomenon has a good reason for existing. Blame Google.
You see, Google’s search algorithm is an extremely complex mathematical formula which draws on over 200 variables. It uses these variables to meticulously rank websites; to decide who the “kings of the keyword castle” are.
And they won’t even throw a bone to us marketers. The height of their transparency took place when they released an extremely basic guide to SEO, which told us nothing we didn’t already know.
